Happy 2008!!!!!

December 31, 2007 at 4:42 pm (Uncategorized)

Happy New Year to everyone!

Personally I am not really a fan of New Year\’s Eve celebrations, I can take it or leave it.

Usually I just stay at home and watch a good movie.

If I am in a relationship, my ideal NYE is to have a really romantic dinner and be in bed before midnight (but not asleep haha)

I think there is too much pressure on people to have a good time on NYE and sometimes it just doesn\’t happen, and its a bit of an anit climax.

As I don\’t drink anymore either I think it gets a little boring watching people get drunk.

Last night we just had a quiet NY in the street where I live.

All the neighbours got together and had a bbq and all the kids played in the street and had lots of fun.

However having said that I wish everyone a great year in 2008 and hope that it will not only be better for people on a personal level, but better for the world as well.

Right now I am doing one of my favourite things…

December 27, 2007 at 1:50 am (Uncategorized)

and that is watching an Austrian/German TV show called \”Inspector Rex\”

I watch it because it was my mother\’s favourite show and we used to always watch it together.

I like to remember how much she loved it.

I think she loved it for a few reasons.

The star of the show was a gorgeous German Shepherd dog.

The detective in it was pretty cute.

It was in German and she spent quite a few years in Germany.

And she loved mystery type shows.

If you haven\’t seen this show or don\’t know of it, if you ever have the opportunity to see it, it is quite a good show.

Of course the best thing is that \”Rex\” always seems to save the day, and also does lots of cool tricks.

Anyway, that is what I am doing right now which is a bit hard because it is subtitled and I can\’t read the telly and type at the same time.

So I must go. I hope everyone has had a lovely xmas and will have a fantastic new year!

P.S. Its raining here right now but warm so its really lovely.

Mixed emotions over the last two weeks….

December 21, 2007 at 3:31 pm (Uncategorized)

and continuing.

Xmas is supposed to be a happy time of year but it can also be one of the saddest times of the year for many people.

I guess we all see Xmas as a time to spend with family and friends so my heart goes out to those who are alone over the holidays for whatever reason. Unless of course they are happy and choose to be alone.

Sometimes though it is nice just to have a simple holiday, because I know how complicated spending time with family can be.

Anyway back to my mixed emotions over the last two weeks.

In the last two weeks I have…

Built a cardboard Viking Ship.

Had two dates with a Scottish guy.

Tried to ignore my ex.

Been at the BIG work party and I mean 1300 people BIG, where I saw lots of people get rat faced.

Found out about the passing away of the lovely Mr Lev (Hozomeen)

Been out to lunch with my beautiful friend Amanda who I don\’t see very much now she is working in another state.

Had an email from my gorgeous friend who is currently in Taiwan.

Received notification of my sisters applying to the Supreme Court to have my mothers will over turned.

Received a Xmas gift from my late husbands mother.

So yes, you can see why my state is that of mixed emotions. Lucky for me I have my wonderful friends, colleagues and neighbours Pam and Ian. I will be having Xmas day with them and lots of others they have invited over.

Happy and sad all at once.

I think I am bound to cry sometime over the next couple of days.

Posting a picture of my incredible Viking Ship.

I hope EVERYONE has a happy and safe holiday, whatever your beliefs are.

December 7, 2007 at 4:03 pm (Uncategorized)

our department moved into a new office building in the university campus.

For those of you that read my blog on a regular basis you may remember my post about my new digs.

If not here we are one year on and settled in.

Here is a photo of my desk. I sit here all day.

And the view from our window, which is very nice.

An above cubicle view of the floor.

And my meerkat peering over the cubicle wall.

I kind of feel like we are all little meerkats down in our burrows and when there is a bit of commotion we all stand up to see what is going on.

We have been told by management we are not allowed to talk over our cubicle walls. Are we in kindy or what?

When they made the decision to go open plan I think they should have realized that this would be a rather noisy environment and those who were used to being in single offices would have to adapt.

Noise in the workplace doesn\’t bother me unless it is construction or something similar. I find it very easy to block out people talking and things like that if I am busy.

Anyway, now you have some idea of where I spend most of my days.

A request from my friend Mike…

December 2, 2007 at 4:17 pm (Uncategorized)

for all of you that don’t live in Australia or have never been here to let you know what it is like here over Xmas.

Well for a start it is summer here so its very hot and humid.

As I live in the north of Australia its very tropical.

We have lots of thunderstorms, lightning and hail, blackouts and storm damage. The photograph is a storm that happened here in October this year.

Usually on Xmas day we are all swealtering, and sweating it out unless you are lucky enough to either have air conditioning or be somewhere where you can get cool.

Needless to say we don\’t usually have hot food on Xmas day (unless its a bbq), but usually do have, seafood, prawns, crab, cold meats and lots of salad and stone fruit which are in season here.

My favourites are cherries, mangos, apricots, plums just to name a few.

I have yet to experience a white Xmas. I imagine it would be beautiful but I suppose I have an idealised impression of it due to all those Xmas movies.

It never really gets cold here, even in winter which is in June/July. We may have a couple of quite cold nights in winter but I rarely need to wear a jumper in winter during the day.

It certainly doesn\’t snow where I live although it does snow in some southern parts of Australia.

So that is what it is like where I live over Xmas.
