Off for a Check Up…

November 22, 2006 at 3:08 pm (Uncategorized)

Hi all my lovely friends out there.

Well this morning I am off the the hospital to see my surgeon to check that the tumour I had removed six months ago has not returned.

For all those women out there reading this I can only say NEVER ignore a lump in your breast if you have one.

Even though I was lucky and my tumour was benign, I did go through a few days of thinking I may have had cancer. When I first had my ultrasound and core biopsy the doctors were preparing me for the worst. I guess my worst fear was losing my breast, strangely enough this worried me more than thinking I might actually die.

However in saying that I did end up with a rare tumour that can reoccur and can become cancer. So while I did have it removed I still am going to have to be vigilant and most likely have a mammogram every six months.

I have gleaned so much information from the Yahoo group “Phyllodes” (which was the type of tumour I had) and the lovely women in this group that have all experienced the same type of tumour in various conditions, I am thankful that such a group existed. And sad too that so many of those women had much worse outcomes than myself.

So I am going with mixed feelings.

That’s all for now.

Do something good, just for yourself, BEFORE you get to the hospital.

That way, whatever the outcome you can smile and say, “Hey, I was worth the treat regardless!”. It will cheer you, hopefully make you smile, might distract you from the chore you have and should make you reealise that you are worth the effort irrespective of your health!

    Great luck, Michael xx

I hope all is well with you! (Am so engrossed in your blog that I thought I’d finish reading the rest of the entries!) I, too, found a small lump a couple years ago — thankfully, it was NOTHING and went away once I was on the RIGHT pill again. But lesson learned — I agree with ya — NEVER ignore something unusual with your body!
